We strongly believe that saving energy is not just about switching off the lights or accepting a lower visual standard. New technologies such as nano-optics, computer optimised reflectors, high power leds can maintain safety levels whilst saving energy.

Switching off street lighting is likely to cause increases in accidents and vandalism. DfL are able to advise on many alternatives, including upgrading light sources to more energy efficient electronically driven white light sources.

Indoors, reductions in light levels, or switching off luminaires, if not done properly, can lead to eyestrain and less effective working. We would be pleased to advise on your lighting use.

Environment
Linked to reducing energy consumption is the need to maintain our environment. We can advise on topics such as obtrusive light or light nuisance. DfL are able to design to minimise sky glow in rural areas whilst maintaining security for pedestrians. Simple techniques can often be the most effective.
Nightscape policies are an essential tool in town & city planning.

Environmental Impact Assessment
DfL have advised clients and produced EIA’s for a number of projects including a proposed Bio-ethanol plant in Somerset, and a retail plaza in Hampshire.
